Revolver Magazine [The Netherlands]
"Live In Gdańsk is the recording of the final show of David Gilmour's On An Island tour in 2006. Where the 62-year-old master guitarist (unfortunately) split his Amsterdam set into a part with new, restrained and somewhat flat material and a half with old Pink Floyd material, here the sequence is (after the fact?) nicely mixed up. What also needs mentioning is the addition in some songs of the Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra and the live premiere of Floyd's A Great Day For Freedom. A fitting choice, given the historical significance of the location. In the shipyards of Gdańsk the guitar solos on Castellorizon, This Heaven and especially The Blue sound exceptionally fresh and driven. Also beautiful are the noticeably restrained arrangement of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, a very tight version of Astronomy Domine and the nice bluesy version of Fat Old Sun. And finally it's not Comfortably Numb that delivers the usual closing fireworks. That comes one song earlier during a magnificent finale in A Great Day For Freedom. David Gilmour may have a somewhat low work rate but as long as he keeps showing this form, we're not complaining. Candidate for live album of the year!"

- Quotes from Gdańsk (Monday 28th) [Poland]
"The Music Legend Gilmour brings to the attention of the World and Europe the shipyard legend of August '80." Lech Walesa, Former President of Poland.
"I learned English from Pink Floyd albums. Their albums were cool and the price of any was half of my parents' monthly wages. This Gdańsk concert? Fantastic!"
Radek Sikorski, Defence Minister.
"For a teenager in the Seventies, Pink Floyd meant freedom. Now Gilmour fills in 'The Space of Freedom'. He remains himself, he's faithful to his art, and that's why he's great." Jaroslaw Sellin, Deputy Minister of Culture.
"This year, Gilmour played a great concert of great music." Bogdan Lis, Solidarity representative for the signing of August '80 treaty.
"I've listened to the music from CDs. Going to the concert, I didn't expect that for me and my wife it was going to be such an experience. The concert was fantastic, the best I've ever been to." Marek Kaminski, North Pole explorer.
Rzeczpospolita (Monday 28th) [Poland]
"These days nobody plays like David Gilmour. He's interested only in his fans the ones who came to listen to his voice and his guitar...an audience of more than 50,000 strong.
"Gilmour allowed the music to speak. He plays peacefully, hypnotizing his audiences with poetic guitar solos. The 20-minute-long suite 'Echoes' was beautifully enriched by Wright.
"There was a special dedication for Solidarity, stressing the participation of Leszek Mozdzer and Zbigniew Preisner. Gilmour played 'A Great Day For Freedom', the anthem of freedom, which was absolutely suitable for the August events in Gdańsk Shipyard."
The Guardian (Monday 28th)
Gazeta Wyborcza (Monday 28th) [Poland]
"David Gilmour the voice and guitar of Pink Floyd played for slightly more than three hours at Gdańsk Shipyard to celebrate the 26th anniversary of signing the August treaty between Solidarity and the Polish government.
"Last year we saw Jean Michel Jarre's pompous show, with speeches by politicians. Gilmour, the naturally born rockman, was not buttering up the audience (neither in standing nor seating VIP sections) as he concentrated solely on his music. The sound of his guitar, his vocals and also those of Richard Wright leave no doubt that they both were and are the key musicians of Pink Floyd.
"Gilmour, dressed in black T-shirt and black jeans, was not showing off his guitar skills the way he plays guitar is in a class of its own. The most important thing is that he was bringing emotions that were transmitted to his fans gathered at the Shipyard."

"David Gilmour's new solo album is digital, yet full of warmth. Compared to Pink Floyd albums, it perhaps has a more personal feel, but it is an album where you can enjoy his vocals and bluesy yet distinctive guitar. It was recorded on his boat, and probably used a DAW system, yet has such a warm sound."
