DVD Update
We are delighted to report that David's new
live DVD, Remember That Night, is rocketing
up the European Music DVD charts. It's already
at Number One in Austria, France, Italy and
the UK, Number Two in Belgium, and Number Three
in Holland and Ireland.
The double-disc set is released in New Zealand
and South Africa today; it will be available
in Australia on Saturday 29th September.
As always, we welcome your thoughts over at
The
Blog.

The Ritzy Bits
The DVD
section has been updated, with pages for each
of the Premiere events. Click here
for the latest addition, which includes fascinating
behind-the-scenes footage from the Ritzy
Picturehouse.

North American Opportunities
Hopefully you've been waiting for today if you
live in the USA or Canada, since the Remember
That Night DVD is finally instore there.
As you may have seen on The
Blog, there are a couple of extra retail
opportunities if you live near a Best Buy or
a Borders outlet (US only).
Best Buy sold the most copies in the
US of On An Island, and they have a little
something extra for the RTN DVD an audio
CD of three tracks from the AOL sessions: On
An Island; Take A Breath; and High
Hopes. It comes in a cardboard sleeve and
is INSIDE the shrinkwrapped package, so every
BB buyer should get one. (The stock is stickered
'Exclusive CD inside features 3 unreleased tracks'.)
They are unreleased commercially, but of course
the audio-visuals have been available free via
AOL.
Also, the Borders chain has an extra
mini-poster designed by Steve Knee, featuring
David on the black Strat with green lasers behind.
Again the stock containing the poster is stickered
for easy location.

European Merchandising Update
To clarify for any UK fans still anxiously awaiting
their mail order package: all European pre-orders
have been dispatched. Sincere regrets from Anthill
Trading most orders also requested a
T-Shirt, and although the shirts (from the US)
landed on the 11th, they were delayed in Customs,
arriving only at Anthill late yesterday (17th).
UK DVD-only orders shipped yesterday (there
is no Business Mail pickup on a Saturday), so
were due for arrival today.
Continental Europe DVD-only orders shipped last
Friday (14th).

VH1's Beat Route
For US fans' eyes only: VH1 Classic takes a
David Gilmour road trip with The Road To
The Royal Albert Hall. It is actually a
version of the first half of the Breaking
Bread documentary, directed by Gavin Elder,
with some extended songs added, all taken from
the Remember That Night DVD Royal Albert
Hall concert footage. There is an added small
portion of the US documentary The West Coast
also included on the DVD.
The story, with backstage footage, travelogues
and interviews, takes you from rehearsals at
Bray with a detour to Los Angeles, then a trip
through Manchester and Glasgow, before arriving
at London's Royal Albert Hall. The extra songs
included are: Breathe (In The Air); Time;
Arnold Layne featuring Richard Wright;
Dominoes; On An Island; The
Blue; Take A Breath; Coming Back
To Life; Wot's... Uh The Deal; Wish
You Were Here; Comfortably Numb featuring
David Bowie; and Shine On You Crazy Diamond.
The whole thing is an hour long, split into
roughly 9-minute parts, and can be seen (all
are Eastern Standard Times) on: Monday
17th September at 5.00PM; Sunday 23rd
September at 11.00PM; Monday 24th September
at 1.00AM; and Sunday 30th September
at 9.00PM.

UK Radio & TV Today/Tomorrow
David will be talking today about the Remember
That Night DVD on the day of its UK release
on London ITV's London
Tonight, which starts at 6.00PM.
However, his appearance on BBC Radio 2's Steve
Wright show will now be tomorrow, Tuesday
18th, at 4.25PM.

London Calling, From The Ritzy With Style.
After the hoopla of last week's European 5.1
satellite broadcast, it was North America's
turn yesterday. This time from London's Ritzy
Cinema, Brixton, the 85-minute High Definition
cinema version of Remember That Night
was beamed in 5.1 sound simultaneously to 162
cinemas in the USA and Canada, prefaced by a
live rendition of Castellorizon by David
in person on electric guitar.
As with the Odeon Leicester Square event, there
was a lengthy Question & Answer session
after the screening, hosted this time by Roxy
Music's Phil Manzanera, who of course was included
in the On An Island tour band.
for a transcript of the Q&A, in which questions
were submitted to David by North American fans
via The
Blog.
Later on in the session, some live questions
were taken from the London audience, including
one from a fan actually from Brixton.
Finally, the New World audience was treated
to a surprise tape of last week's Odeon performance
of Island Jam featuring the entire tour
band, and the intimate fans-only evening drew
to a close. We hope to be able to bring you
a short clip of the event shortly.

Try Before You Buy
If you live in some regions of Europe (see
Latest News, Wednesday 12th, below), you may
already be the proud owner of the David Gilmour
DVD Remember That Night. If not, you
will no doubt be getting it on Monday (Tuesday
in North America) and a bit later in some
other countries (see the list below).
If you're still not convinced by the great reactions
received so far, please check out the sample
clips we have on the DVD
page all in high quality streams, with
good renditions of the amazing High Definition
masters. As well as a five-minute compilation
and a 10-minute EPK, we have clips of the following
songs from the Royal Albert Hall for your delectation:
The Blue; Coming Back To Life;
Shine On You Crazy Diamond; Take A
Breath; and the full version of Fat Old
Sun.
And if those don't convince you nothing
will.

Phil In The Chair
The Wireman comes to life in the person of
Roxy Music guitarist, solo artist and member
of the On An Island tour band, Phil
Manzanera, who will adopt the Inquisitor's
cape for Saturday's Remember That Night
cinema event.
If you live in North America, you should be
able to find a theatre close to you that's
presenting the event, as beamed live from
London via satellite. David will be playing
one number on guitar, and Phil will host the
Q&A session after the 85-minute 5.1 broadcast,
which we hope will evoke positive responses
similar to last week's reactions.
Visit the DVD
page for participating theatres in North America,
and see below for clips from the European
event.

Early Doors ex-UK
(One for our non-UK readers across Europe):
if you live in any of the following countries
Germany, Austria, Switzerland,
Italy, The Netherlands, or the
Republic of Ireland you should
be able to find the Remember That Night
DVD in your local stores on Friday 14th
September. This is because the former
adherence to same-day releases has been relaxed
to allow for different chart and retail conditions
in each country.
The official European release date is still
Monday 17th September and all other
European countries should have it available
then, except for Finland and Sweden,
who have to wait until Wednesday 19th September.
As before, the North American release date
is still Tuesday 18th September; we
expect to have details of the 'Rest of the
World' on Friday, so stay tuned.

Off The Cuff Links To Odeon Q&A
As promised, we now have high-quality links
to David's performance of Castellorizon
last week (see the Odeon report, Friday 7th,
below), plus the Q&A session with Stuart
Maconie.
The transcript
of the Odeon Q&A, featuring many
off-the-cuff remarks, quips and revelations,
can be found here.
We are also taking additional
questions for the North American premiere on
The
Blog this week.

Broadcastellorizon with Jam On Leicester
Sq. Report
|

|
'Expect the
unexpected' is the watchword here at DavidGilmour.com,
and last night's bravura tour de force
from London's Odeon Leicester Square was
no exception. There were even echoes of
the other Odeon, in Hammersmith, as the
cinema became a concert venue, but more
on that later. |
As heralded, the evening was hosted by BBC Radio
2's Stuart Maconie, who introduced David to
a capacity crowd for the benefit of the attendees
across UK and Continental film theatres for
this special one-off performance.
In a technically-challenging presentation, some
broadcasting parameters were stretched around
the playout of the 85-minute cinema version
of the Remember That Night DVD, which
was played from a High Definition Master and
uplinked by satellite live in 5.1 surround sound
to cinemas around Britain, Sweden, the Netherlands,
Germany, Denmark, and Austria.
As well as the task of maintaining a steady
high-quality satellite 6-channel feed, the event's
producers had to integrate the other elements:
live performance; radio feed; and playout of
video questions submitted in advance by fans.
After a brief rundown of the schedule from Stuart
Maconie, David performed a live version of Castellorizon
on electric guitar, which segued seamlessly
into the Royal Albert Hall performance of On
An Island from the Remember That Night
DVD. The full listing of the cinema version
was: On An Island; This Heaven;
The Blue; Take A Breath; Shine
On You Crazy Diamond; Time/Breathe (Reprise);
Arnold Layne featuring David Bowie; High
Hopes; Wish You Were Here; and, of
course, the centrepiece of Echoes, made
unforgettable by the addition, inside the theatre,
of a special one-off Marc Brickman installation
of smoke, lasers and spotlights that left the
audience amazed.
The official part of the evening was completed
by a lengthy Q&A session, in which David
answered a mixture of pre-selected and ad hoc
questions with his customary consideration and
good humour. (Incredibly, there was only one
question on the lines of "when will you
play my home town..?".) We hope to add
a transcription soon at DavidGilmour.com.
Then, to the astonishment of those collecting
up their belongings, David casually picked up
his Les Paul, and there appeared on stage a
drumkit, keyboards and various amps. With no
preamble, David launched into Island Jam
(a new version of which is contained on Disc
2 of Remember That Night), and in very
short order, he was joined by the complete 2006
tour band: Steve DiStanislao on drums; Guy Pratt
on bass; Jon Carin (playing guitar); Dick Parry
on sax; Phil Manzanera on guitar; and the incomparable
Richard Wright on keyboards.
All credit is due to David's hardworking crew
for an astonishingly fast set-up, because the
band hit the ground running, all the more exciting
because of the unexpected surprise. The standing
ovation at the (final) end of one incredible
night said it all a remarkable evening
from a remarkable team led by a remarkable talent.
You'll wish you'd been there when you see the
clips here.
And don't forget the UK TV showing of 60 minutes
from Remember That Night at 11.00PM on
BBC1 tomorrow, Saturday 8th September.
