Around The World From Abbey Road

As revealed on The Blog, we have now received some details of broadcast companies around the world that have bought the rights to the Live From Abbey Road TV series. David and his band were filmed performing three songs live at Abbey Road in August 2006, and were featured in Show 8 of the UK series. We can't guarantee that all the shows will be broadcast in the same format as in the UK, but have a look at the TV show's Web site for a glimpse of David in action, and the lineup for all the programmes.

Check with the broadcasters for your local showing in: Belgium (Flemish) – VRT; Cyprus – Lumiere; Czech Republic – Ceska; Finland – YLE; Iceland – 365 Media; Italy – Fox and Culture Networks; Middle East – Melody Entertainment and Arab Venture; Norway – TV2 (Zebra); Spain – Multicanal (Pay service); Sweden – Kanal 5; Asia (pan-regional) Star TV; Hong Kong – ATV; Malaysia – Media Prima; New Zealand – Rialto Channel; Pakistan – Geo TV; Singapore – MediaCorp TV 12; Thailand – UBC; USA – Sony.

We only have actual broadcast info as follows: Australia – ABC; tentatively scheduled for July, and perhaps 10:30PM on a Saturday (but NOT confirmed). Meanwhile in Australia, XYZ's music channel 'MAX' launched the series on April 1st, and they have it exclusively for three months. Japan – Mico has started running the series from April 20th (8:00PM on Channel NHK NV). As previously reported, the Sundance Channel has it in the USA, and we anticipate showings from June, but have received no confirmation of actual broadcast dates.

"Possibly the Four Greatest Notes in Recorded History..."

Don't take our word for it – that's what Jamie Humphries calls David's memorable riff from Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Who he? Well, apart from playing in the the USA and Canada with the Australian Pink Floyd Show, he has transcribed some of David's guitar parts for readers of the Spring 2007 Guitar Techniques magazine, which features David on the cover.

Astonishing to think that Wish You Were Here came out more than 31 years ago, but very positive to consider that a new generation of guitar players is being influenced by David's approach to the guitar.

Jamie has produced the usual CD (which comes with the magazine) with a version of a backing track, plus a recording of his own guitar over the track to illustrate some of David's style.

Of course, the master stands alone, but Jamie's tablature and approach serves to remind us (as if we needed reminding) what a timeless classic Shine On You Crazy Diamond is, and not just the unique guitar playing but the whole work: arrangement; production; lyrics; and emotion. Play it again today – and strike out the 'possibly' above...

No David for Live Earth

Just to deal with the constant rumour-mongers amongst the world's media, we would like to state that David has no plans to play at any of the forthcoming 'Live Earth' concerts. Fun though this kind of speculation can be, it can create unnecessary anticipation or disappointment, and does distract attention from other matters.

So please do consult The Blog for the latest issues consuming the David Gilmour fan community, and if you have an interest in some of the issues facing mankind, check out The Important Stuff for links to various thought-provoking areas.

DavidGilmour.com in No Cash For Honours Scandal!

In an exclusive announcement that has rocked the business world, we can reveal that DavidGilmour.com has been selected as an 'Honoree' by the upstanding folk that run the Webby Awards.

In a shock reversal of normal protocol, no cash has changed hands to secure this prestigious listing, leaving more for the DavidGilmour.com Christmas party. Joking aside, the 'Official Honorees' category recognises creative excellence amongst submissions for the Webby Awards.

According to the Webby people, "Of the more than 8,000 entries submitted to the 11th Annual Webby Awards, fewer than 15% were distinguished as an Official Honoree. This honor signifies an outstanding caliber of work. Congratulations to all of our Official Honoree selections!"

Wot's... Uh The Date? September 17th!

As you will have seen from the world exclusive on The Blog, the European date for the release of David Gilmour's DVD Remember That Night – Live At The Royal Albert Hall is...(drum roll)...Monday 17th September!

Because DVDs are released on a Tuesday in the US, the North American date will be Tuesday 18th September.

There will be regular communiqués regarding the content of the DVD (updated regularly on The Blog), but suffice to say it is a work of many layers which has required much post-production and planning.

Stay tuned to this site for updates on the content and packaging, although it wouldn't be fair to give too much away too early...
